SAEE AWARDS 2009

Each year the Southern African Association for Energy Efficiency (SAEE) hosts a prestigious Banquet and Annual Awards Ceremony. This event also celebrated the official opening of the 4th Southern African Energy Efficiency Convention (SAEEC) 2009 held on 12 – 13 November 2009 at Emperors Palace, Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa.
The Southern African Association for Energy Efficiency (SAEE) annually recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of individuals and companies in the energy field through the SAEE Awards Program. The awards are a token to recognise the commitment to their profession, desire to further the association's mission, and participation in civic and community affairs.
The following awards were presented at the SAEE Annual Awards & Banquet.
Energy Company for the Year
This award is given to a Company who has demonstrated outstanding achievements in the energy industry in Southern Africa during the year.
Eskom Energy Audits

Since 2004 Eskom Energy Audit Services has managed and guided M&V Teams that perform M&V activities on over 400 DSM Projects producing more than 1 200 MW in evening peak demand impacts.
They facilitated in the standardisation of M&V practices in SA to such an extent that the World Bank has stated that M&V fraternity is above world standard - if not the best. They are currently managing eight M&V Teams and together operate the "best M&V system in the world".

Energy Newcomer for the Year
This award is given to recognise a newcomer who has demonstrated outstanding achievements in the energy industry in Southern Africa.
Elizabeth Senatle (Individual Award)

Elizabeth came from a poor and tough background. During life she had to stand her ground to stay focused and motivated. Despite tough conditions Elizabeth still managed to get the highest grades in school.
When studying she had a part-time job whilst helping her mom. After matric she worked full time and managed to save enough to pay for her studies in Electrical Engineering at FET College.
She got another job as a domestic worker in Meyerton.
Whilst living in the area she looked for opportunities to empowered herself and support herself financially. As a domestic worker, one of her employers got National Power’s contact details and after going for
an interview in 2007 she was employed as a trainee technician.

She did so well that she ended up assisting in running big projects for the company. She is currently running a compressor and lighting efficiency project at ABI, projects that she initiated on her own as well
as getting contracts and proposing audits. With result of this incredible story of overcoming obstacles, Elizabeth is awarded Energy Newcomer of the year.
Excellence Award – Company
This award is given to recognize a company whose role has made outstanding contribution towards improving energy efficiency and reducing emissions, came up with new innovative means of conservation, or has
advanced and expanded access to power and energy in Africa in a sustainable manner.
AngloGold Ashanti

Anglo Gold Ashanti has been extremely pro-active and still active in term of implementing and achieving sustainable energy efficiency Impacts since 1994, and to date they have an saved a substantial amount of energy, and energy costs for the company.
Their commitment has contributed not only to the company self, but also resulted in numerous environmental benefits, and has greatly assisted South African as a whole during the energy crises.

Best Certified Energy Manager (CEM) Student of the Year
This award is given to a student who obtained the highest score in an exam during the year as part of being certified as an energy manager.
Mr Andrew Scott from Saint-Gobain Construction
This award is given to a student who obtained the highest score in an exam during the year as part of being certified as an energy manager.
He obtained 88% for this course.
Best Certified Measurement & Verification Professional (CMVP) Student of the Year
This award is given to a student who obtained the highest score in an exam during the year as part of being a certified measurement and verification professional.
Prof Hendrik Vermeulen for Stellenbosch University

This award is given to a student who obtained the highest score in an exam during the year as part of being a certified measurement and verification professional.
He obtained 85% for this course.

SAEEC200 EXHIBITORS AWARDS
