THE HEAT IS ON FOR 2018!

On behalf of the SAEE Confederation – welcome to 2018! I hope the festive season was kind to you, that you had a well-deserved rest and that you are approaching 2018 with renewed energy (excuse the pun). 2017 was a challenging year for most; and it was filled with upheaval and unknown variables. Many people told me that they were happy to see the back of it, and, with some of the external changes, they are more optimistic for 2018.

CHARTING A NEW VISION FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY

As part of its rebranding, the Southern African Energy Efficiency Confederation is redefining its purpose and vision. We take cognizance of our current recession with its uncertainties and the constraints on investment and growth. Whilst businesses are struggling to survive and consumers are looking for opportunities to cut costs, we believe that Energy Efficiency remains core to our sustainable growth and prosperity as a country and continent.

Not only does the focus on energy efficiency assist in mitigating the impending rising costs in energy, but it also will save money for businesses to survive and grow.  This will foster growth and investment for the greater good and prosperity for all.

NOMINATIONS FOR SAEEC PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS NOW OPEN!

The Southern African Energy Efficiency Confederation (SAEEC), is excited to announce the opening of nominations for its prestigious Energy Awards for 2017. The SAEE Confederation promotes the implementation of Energy Management and sustainable energy investment and practices that save money and boosts socioeconomic growth within a low carbon trajectory.  It is with this goal in mind that we wish to give recognition to those individuals and organisations who work hard to promote sustainable energy consumption and set an example of best practice for others to follow. As the local chapter of the American Energy Engineers who are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year, some of the winning categories will also stand a chance to win the AEE’s international awards in 2018.

A FOCUS ON ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN BUILDINGS

I have always maintained that the members of the SAEE were the path-finders in the energy efficiency space and, thus there is an enormous amount of knowledge and expertise within our Association.

The scope that the members cover was “top of mind” as I read the Draft National Energy Efficiency Strategy (NEES) in February.

I did a mini strategic analysis of the content of NEES with the following questions in mind:
  • What does it cover that we cover too?
  • How and in what direction does it lead us?
  • What are the gaps?

Thank you to all those who gave comment on the draft National Energy Energy Efficiency Strategy (NEES). We encourage you to continue to engage with it until it is finalized since it will inform the choices you make and your own participation in securing a sustainable energy pathway

To begin with, 2017 is still new and despite the many challenges we face, there is always a promise in something being new and the opportunities that each new day brings. As the new president of the SAEE, I am excited to announce that we are transitioning from the SAEE to the SAEE Confederation.

The SAEEC is a proud chapter of the AEE.
